I can't start a recording!
Unable to start a Scribenote recording? Worry not! Follow the steps below and hopefully you'll be spittin' some fire notes in no time at all! 🔥
Web​
Check your permissions​
Your microphone permissions might be disabled. Scribenote requires this setting to be enabled in your browser in order for you to record audio.
To enable your microphone permissions, follow these steps:
Safari​
By default, you should see this popup when you try to start a recording on the web app. Clicking Allow will enable you to record audio. If you don't see this popup, your microphone permissions are probably disabled.
- In the top navigation bar, click Settings for this website... under the Safari option.
- You should see a popup open below your searchbar. Check where it says Microphone. Set it to either Allow or Ask.
- Now, try a recording. If you set it to Ask, you will have to allow permissions everytime as shown:
Chrome​
By default, you should see this popup when you try to start a recording on the web app. Clicking Allow will enable you to record audio.
- Click the lock icon beside the URL (www.scribenote.com) in the searchbar. You should see a Microphone permission. It should be enabled as shown. You might have to refresh the page to save the settings.
- Now, try a recording. It should work. You should also see a microphone icon in the searchbar as shown. Click it and there should be a "Microphone allowed" confirmation.
Firefox​
By default, you should see this popup when you try to start a recording on the web app. Clicking Allow will enable you to record audio.
- If your microphone permissions are denied, you'll see a microphone icon with a line through it in the searchbar. Click on it and you'll see this popup:
- Clear the Blocked setting by clicking the X. You will need to refresh the page after this.
- Try another recording. You should see the permission setting popup. Click Allow.
Mobile​
Check that you have enough local storage space​
iPhone (iOS)​
- Go to your Settings app.
- Search up "storage" in the searchbar at the top of the screen.
- Tap on the Storage link. The subtitle should say General.
- It should say how much storage you've used out of your total capacity:
- Scribenote doesn't require much storage to save your recordings, but if you have less than 100 MB of storage space remaining, we suggest you make some room.
Android​
- Go to your Settings app.
- Tap Storage.

- If you have a home button: Completely close your Scribenote app by double pressing your home button, then swipe up on the Scribenote app preview. If you don't have a home button: Completely close your Scribenote app by swiping up from the bottom of your screen, then swipe up again on the Scribenote app preview.
- Go to your Settings app.
- Search up "Scribenote" in the searchbar at the top of the screen.
- Tap on the first link that shows up - it should be Scribenote.
- You should see the Microphone option. Make sure to toggle it ON.
- Go back to your Scribenote app, and try a recording.
Android​
- Completely close your Scribenote app by pressing the left button, then swipe up again on the Scribenote app preview.
- Go to your Settings app.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Permission manager.
- Tap Microphone.
- Look for the Scribenote app and select it.
- You should see the options Allow and Deny. Make sure to select Allow.
- Go back to your Scribenote app, and try a recording.
