What is Writing Companion (Quill)?

Writing Companion will help you quickly edit notes and client summaries.

Updated today

Meet Quill, your Writing Companion. This Beta feature, available for Pro plan users to try for a limited time, is designed to help you quickly edit notes or client summaries.

With Quill, you can interact with an AI assistant to make edits to your notes and client summaries. Simply ask for changes like "re-write the client summary so that it’s 200 words max" or "correct the misspelled medication names", and Quill will get right to work!

Editing Notes

  1. Open the note you want to edit.

  2. Open the Companion sidebar, or click on the Quill icon. To open the sidebar click on the purple section on the left side of your screen.

  3. Start a new chat. Click the New Chat button at the bottom of the sidebar window.

  4. Ask Quill for edits. In the chat window and describe the change you want made.

Here are some ways you can ask Quill to edit your notes:

    • Adding or Removing Information:

      • Add a focused discharge report at the bottom of the plan section, including the reason for the appointment, what was done, and next steps.

      • Remove the normals from the objective section.

    • Conciseness & Clarity:

      • Re-write the subjective section so that it’s 200 words max.

    • Note Formatting:

      • Make the subjective section point form.

      • Add subheadings to the plan section.

    • Tone:

      • Write the plan section in layman’s terms.

      • Use medical terminology in the plan section.

  5. Accept or reject changes. After Quill suggests edits, you’ll be prompted to either accept ✅ or reject ❌ the changes. The revised version appears on the left, while the original version remains on the right. Additions are highlighted in green, and any removed content is shown in red.

Editing Client Summaries

  1. Open the note that contains the client summary you want to edit.

  2. Generate or open the Client Summary. At the bottom of your note, open the Client Summary drop-down menu, then click Generate a Client Summary if one does not already exist. Note: for now, Quill cannot edit client summaries until they are manually generated in the note by the user.

  3. Open the Companion sidebar. On the left side of your screen, open the purple Companion sidebar.

  4. Start a new chat. Click the New Chat button at the bottom of the sidebar window.

  5. Ask Quill for edits. In the chat window and describe how you’d like the summary customized.

Here are a few ways you can ask Quill to tailor summaries for your clients:

    • Include only the treatment options and follow-up plan in the client summary.

    • Only include a brief summary and discharge instructions in the client summary.

    • Re-write the client summary in email format.

  6. Accept or reject changes. After Quill suggests edits, you’ll be prompted to either accept ✅ or reject ❌ the changes. The revised version appears on the left, while the original version remains on the right. Additions are highlighted in green, and any removed content is shown in red.

Creating a Template

  1. Open the Companion sidebar. On the left side of your screen, open the purple Companion sidebar.

  2. Start a new chat. Click the New Chat button at the bottom of the sidebar window.

  3. Ask Quill to create a template. Start a new chat and ask Quill to create a template, then describe what you’d like it to include along with any specific instructions.

    For example:

    • "Build me a SOAP template for a canine wellness exam”

    • “Create a template for a puppy litter visit for 1st vaccines”

    • “I need a post-op monitoring template for orthopedic surgery”

  4. Open the generated template. Quill will create an Adaptive Template based on your instructions and provide a link to open and edit it.

  5. Edit the template. You can make changes directly in the template editor, or continue working with Quill by requesting additional edits in the chat.

  6. Review and approve changes. When Quill suggests edits, you’ll be prompted to accept ✅ or reject ❌ each change.

The revised version appears on the left, while the original version remains on the right. Additions are highlighted in green, and any removed content is shown in red.
