Exporting your Notes

Learn how to export your notes and choose your export format.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Exporting your notes allows you to easily transfer records into your PIMS or medical record software, share them with your team, or keep copies for your own files. Scribenote offers multiple export and formatting options so you can choose the workflow that best fits your clinic.

Export Formatting

⚠️ This setting applies to notes exported via integrations or copy & paste, and does not apply to PDF or email exports.

Since all PIMS are different, you can customize how your notes are formatted when exported. To do this:

  1. Click the profile icon in the top right corner of your screen, then select Account from the dropdown.

  2. Click on the PIMS Exporting section.

  3. Choose between the following options.

    • Plain text

    • Markdown

    • Rich text

⚠️ This setting only affects how notes are formatted when exported. It does not change how notes appear within Scribenote. Learn more about editing your note here.

Integrations

Integrations are the most seamless way to transfer your notes. To learn more about the available integration options, and the best option for your PIMS, check out this article.

Copy & Paste

You can copy the entire note if your PIMS supports entering it into a single text box.

If you are viewing the note in the inbox, click the copy icon to copy the full note.

If you are on the note page, click the Export Note section at the bottom of the note then click the Copy Entire Note button.

You can also copy each individual S-O-A-P field at a time, then paste them over to the correct fields in your PIMS!

Download as a PDF

You can download the record as a PDF file, then attach it to the patient’s note or file in your PIMS, just like you would attach a record from a referring hospital or another clinic.

⚠️ PDF exports do not support rich text formatting. As a result, markdown formatting (for example bold, italics, or headings) will appear as visible symbols in the PDF. Read more about markdown formatting here.

If you are viewing the note in the inbox, click the PDF icon to generate a PDF.

If you are on the note page, click the Export Note section at the bottom of the note then click the Download PDF button.

Email

You can enter one or more email addresses to send your note directly via email.

⚠️ Notes emailed as embedded text do not support rich text formatting. As a result, markdown formatting (for example bold, italics, or headings) will appear as visible symbols in the PDF. Read more about markdown formatting here.

If you are viewing the note in the inbox, click the email icon to open the email modal. Once you click Send, the note will be emailed to the recipients you’ve entered.

If you are on the note page, click the Export Note section at the bottom of the note then click the Send Email button. The same email modal will appear and the note will be emailed to the recipients you’ve entered once you click Send.

You can also set up Email Exporting for automatic delivery. To do this, go to your Account Settings and click on Email Exporting. With this enabled, every completed SOAP note will automatically be sent to the email address you specify when you click Submit.

The link included in the Email Export is automatically set to expire after one day. You can update this in the Note Link Expiry Time section.
