Editing a Note

Need to make changes to your notes? Here's how.

Updated today

You can edit notes directly in Scribenote using either the web app or the mobile app. Scribenote supports two types of formatting in the note editor:

  • Rich Text Formatting (default)

  • Markdown / Plain Text Formatting

By default, Scribenote uses Rich Text formatting, which allows you to see formatting such as bold text, headings, and lists directly in the editor while typing.

If you prefer working with Markdown / Plain Text formatting, you can enable it in your account settings.

The formatting option you choose may also depend on the requirements or compatibility of your PIMS.

Rich Text Formatting

Rich Text formatting allows you to see formatting directly in the note editor while typing. This includes elements such as bold text, italics, headings, and lists, which appear visually formatted instead of showing formatting symbols.

This is the default editor in Scribenote and works similarly to most modern text editors.

Markdown / Plain Text Formatting

Markdown formatting is applied in the plain text editor and uses symbols to apply formatting to text. Instead of seeing formatted text while typing, you will see the symbols that control the formatting. When your note is pasted into a compatible PIMS, the formatting will appear correctly.

If you prefer to work with Markdown formatting, you can mention this in the preferences of your Adaptive Template so formatting is applied consistently.

Enable the Plain Text Editor

⚠️ The Plain Text Editor can only be enabled on the web app.

If you would like to work with a plain text editor, you will need to enable this in your account settings.

  1. Click the profile icon in the top right corner of your screen and select Account from the dropdown.

  2. Navigate to the Preferences section.

  3. Toggle on Use Plain Text Editor.

Editing a Note on the Web App

  1. Open Your Note. Open the web app and select the note you would like to edit.

  2. Edit the Section. Click into the section you want to edit and type your changes.

    • If you make a mistake, you can use the undo and redo buttons. These will only apply to text you have manually edited and will not revert changes made by Quill.

  3. Save Your Changes. Once you are finished editing, save your changes.

⚠️ We recommend editing notes only after all reprocessing has been completed.

If a note is reprocessed for any reason, any manual edits will be overridden. Editing directly in the note works best for small changes such as formatting or wording adjustments.

If information was missed in the note, we recommend using Add to include it in the recording instead. You can read more about this here:
